Donald Odell is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of California and the United States District Court for both the Northern District of California and the Southern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Don has been in private practice in California since 1994. He began his legal career with a major independent civil litigation defense firm in Walnut Creek where he worked in the areas of real estate contract and construction law, land use and development, medical malpractice, and asbestos-related personal injury defense.
In 1997, Don moved to a mid-sized general practice firm in Pleasanton, California, where he specialized in business and construction contract actions and construction defect litigation.
In 2003, Don joined the firm of McNichols Randick O'Dea & Tooliatos as a partner focusing on land use and development and construction related issues with an emphasis on construction defect litigation.
In April of 2007, Don formed his firm under the name of The Odell Law Group where he continued to focus on land use and construction, expanding his practice to include fractional in-house counsel services.
In 2015 began work for the California High-Speed Rail Authority, first as an attorney, where he managed the acquisition of properties needed for construction of the High-Speed Rail, and later, at the appointment of Governor Brown, as Director of Real Property where he worked closely with property owners and their attorneys throughout the Central Valley negotiating multi-million-dollar land purchases.
In 2020, Don return to private practice, first as the managing attorney of a mid-sized firm in Oakland, California then, in 2023, at the request for several clients, Don returned to his own practice under the new name of Amstrong Odell & Associates where he continues to represent individuals and small businesses with their legal needs with focus real estate, land use and construction, with a growing fractional in-house counsel services and prelitigation dispute analysis and resolution.
Don has extensive experience in business and related legal issues, and in all phases of litigation including mediation, arbitration, trial, and appeals, and has represented clients throughout California, nationally and internationally resulting in multi-million-dollar settlements, awards and judgments for his clients.
