Contractor Abandoned Project
After a contractor demanded a higher price mid-remodel and refused to continue without a new contract, homeowners discovered through legal assistance that the contractor's license was suspended, leading to a successful breach of contract action and a judgment awarding over $1,200,000 for reimbursement and completion costs.
The Situation
Homeowners hired a contractor to remodel their existing home. After gutting the house, the contractor approached the homeowners with a new contract at a much higher price, refusing to complete the work unless the homeowners agreed to the new contract. Homeowners refused and called us for help.
The Result
We discovered that the contractor's license was suspended, preventing him from legally contracting. We immediately terminated the contract, filed a civil action for breach of contract, and within a couple of months, received a judgment for the homeowners reimbursing them for all of the money they had previously paid the contractor, plus the cost to complete the remodel, a total of more than $1,200,000.
