County Blocks Access Road to Property
After being denied access through a county park to his rural property due to changed locks, a landowner successfully negotiated a deal prior to trial where the county purchased his property at full market value, while he retained lifelong, rent-free residence and access.
The Situation
Our client, a 40+ year old, owned a large parcel of rural land on which he lived. Access to the his property required him to pass through a county park.
By prior agreement, our client was given keys to the park gates, allowing him unrestricted access to the property. After the county changed the locks on the gates and refused to give our client keys to the new locks, he called us.
The Result
Prior to trial, we negotiated a deal with the county where the county purchased our client's property at full market value, with our client retaining the right to live on the property, rent free, with full and unrestricted access to the property for remainder of his life.
